Spices and spices not only give even the most ordinary dishes a special taste, but also help to avoid problems with the heart, blood vessels and reduce the risk of diabetes. It's not for nothing that Ayurveda, yoga and everything related to India are back in fashion now.

And if earlier they just talked about it and gave examples from their own or someone else's experience, now these data are confirmed by scientific research.

This time, the research was conducted at the Research University of Pennsylvania. The results cannot but please fans of Indian cuisine and Ayurveda.

But first, a small digression in the form of a brief reference. Many do not distinguish between spices and spices. In fact, it is very difficult to separate them, since there are about one and a half hundred spices. Spices are various parts of plants (root, stem, seeds, bark, fruits, etc.) that are added to food in small quantities, since they have a fairly pronounced taste and aroma.

And if spices can only be parts of plants, then spices and seasonings can also be other substances. For example, vinegar, sugar, salt, alcohol are spices. They also include citric acid and yeast.

Ayurveda is a traditional system of Indian Vedic medicine. Now a lot of people are addicted to only part of this system, namely proper nutrition, which includes a fairly large number of spices and spices. What is milk with Gi butter, turmeric, black pepper and honey worth? By the way, it perfectly helps to cope with a cold.

And now we come back to the scientific research of spices and spices, and their positive impact on our health. During the experiment, it turned out that the use of such common spices and their mixtures, such as curry, turmeric and cinnamon, has a beneficial effect on our body and is a good prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Spicy, spicy food helps to reduce the level of triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) by a third, even if the dishes were high in fat.

For research, a mixture was used, which included garlic, oregano, curry, turmeric, as well as pepper, rosemary and ginger. In the near future, scientists plan to find out exactly how each of the spices affects the body.

While scientists are conducting their research, thereby confirming with new scientific methods the truths that are more than a thousand years old, I suggest you add a little variety to your standard diet with the help of spices and seasonings. To do this, I will give you brief data on the most common.

Turmeric. There are a huge number of types of turmeric, but we will not dwell on this in detail. It is part of many seasonings, the most popular of which is curry. Turmeric is a warming and immunostimulating spice and is added to drinks in the treatment of colds. It has also been proven that one of the substances that make up the spice bisdemethoxycurcumin is an immunomodulator that stimulates beta-amyloid phagocytosis (the accumulation of which is the cause of Alzheimer's disease).

Saffron. Saffron is very easy to confuse with turmeric and in our markets you will most likely be sold it, but under the guise of saffron. Real saffron is very expensive and it is quite difficult to find it. One of the tests — take a small amount of saffron, apply it on your wrist and rub it hard — you should get hot. Saffron helps to maintain vision in good condition, up to the prevention of blindness. Let's add here blood purification, help with headaches and insomnia, kidney cleansing, toning and rejuvenating effect on the whole body. It turns out that the spice really becomes golden not only in color.

Rosemary. Improves digestion, increases blood pressure, perfectly tones the body. It goes well as a seasoning for meat or dried tomatoes!

Thyme (thyme). In ancient times, thyme was considered a divine herb, which was able not only to restore a person's health, but also life. It goes great with meat and vegetable dishes.

Cayenne pepper. Also known as hot pepper or chili pepper. It has the highest content of vitamins C and A among vegetable crops. It is also used for various shocks, heart attacks, fainting and bleeding. It dilates the vessels when they are narrowed, and narrows if they are dilated. An alcohol tincture is made from it, which is used for heart pain instead of nitroglycerin.

Black pepper. Promotes digestion and improves appetite.

Garlic. Garlic is a natural antibiotic. In addition, it reduces blood pressure and cholesterol in the blood, has antiparasitic properties. In addition, some components that make up garlic react with red blood cells and thus reduce pressure on the walls of blood vessels, which contributes to more active blood flow.

Cumin. Improves kidney function, promotes digestion, lowers cholesterol and blood sugar. It is added to sauces and pastries, goes well with meat and fish. It goes well with stewed cabbage, and I like to add it to pilaf.

Coriander. Improves appetite, promotes digestion and is a choleretic. In the form of seeds, coriander is added to meat dishes, fish and pastries. The green part of the plant is cilantro, which is added to a huge number of salads and other dishes.

Cardamom. Cardamom is a natural tonic and perfectly helps to wake up. Especially if you add it to coffee. It is useful for physical exertion and improves the work of the heart muscle. It is usually added to pastries, as well as to tea and coffee. Mixed with other spices, it is added to meat and fish.

Nutmeg. It is better to be careful with this spice, since nutmeg is a hallucinogen and acts as a drug in large quantities. It was used in their rituals by the inhabitants of the Malaysian archipelago and South American Indians. In cooking, it is used in baking and as an additive to some vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, asparagus, cauliflower), often added to coffee mixed with cardamom and cinnamon.

Ginger.Ginger is added to teas and pastries, perfectly combined with meat dishes and soups. It is especially popular in Thai, Indian and Chinese cuisines. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, helps with arthritis, increases appetite, lowers cholesterol, normalizes the condition of blood vessels.

Cinnamon. Helps fight colds and lowers blood sugar (helps in the treatment of type 2 diabetes). It is usually used in baking, added to coffee, tea and some alcoholic beverages. Sometimes it is added to the mixture for cooking chicken according to recipes of Indian and Chinese cuisine.

Vanilla. Fresh vanilla pods are also not very cheap, especially in our latitudes. It is used mainly in confectionery, it is added to cottage cheese, pancake batter, cookies, cakes, mousses, creams and other desserts. Vanilla improves digestion, neutralizes acidity and normalizes blood sugar levels. So if you are a sweet lover, add it to homemade cakes and desserts more often ;)

Carnation. Cloves are added to sweets, and mixed with black pepper, it is suitable for lamb and pork. Cloves are a good antiseptic and make breathing easier for colds. So it can also be added to tea or hot milk. Just be careful — don't forget that it is quite sharp!

I have listed the spices that I use very often myself. I hope that this small explanatory dictionary will help you diversify the most ordinary dishes, add health and energy.
