Automatic synchronization of Google Calendar and Office Outlook

Alexander Zaitsev in his blog talks about how he tried to synchronize calendars on different devices:

«For a long time I was interested in the issue of synchronizing contacts and calendars/tasks on different devices, whether it's a Nokia mobile phone, a PDA on Windows Mobile 6.0 or a laptop with Office Outloook. The first stage — two-way PC synchronization with mobile devices was solved quite simply, thanks to the programs provided with these very devices (Nokia PC Sync and Windows Mobile Device Center). The problem also arose when it was necessary to transfer data from Outlook (it was chosen as the offline center for storing all tasks and contacts) to Gmail (the address book of the mail client) and Google Calendars.

At first, part of the solution could be found in the installation of programs such as OggSync and SyncMyCal. But, firstly, for their work, in addition to installing the plugin itself, additional packages from Microsoft were also required. Secondly, they did not allow to synchronize contacts. Thirdly, they were suitable only for Windows (which, again, due to the desire to purchase a MacBook, was a negative moment when evaluating these programs). And, finally, and importantly, these programs are all paid. But we did not despair and continued to search for the service/software that could satisfy all the necessary requirements.

Read the continuation (as well as a review of the Plaxo service) in Alexander's blog.
