Windows 11 found Microsoft makes the Windows 11 setup process less boring with an entertaining Easter egg / The Verge a hidden Surf the waves mini-game that can be played during OS installation. Thus, the developers decided to diversify the monotonous process.

"Easter egg" was noticed during the setup of a new laptop Surface Laptop Studio 2. After turning on the computer, the system invited the user to play while she unpacked the files.

Surf the waves is a pixel arcade game with a top view where you need to control a surfer. This is the same game that Microsoft added to its Edge browser in 2020. And it is very similar to SkiFree from the collection Microsoft Entertainment Pack 3, released for Windows in 1991.

The Verge notes that the installer offers to play in case of a large-scale update that takes a lot of time. It is not yet known whether the option is available during less expensive processes. It's also unclear if it's limited to Surface devices only or if Microsoft has added it for everyone.
