WhatsApp update 23.24.70 has been released in the App Store, which adds WhatsApp for iOS 23.24.70: what’s new? / WABetaInfo the ability to log in via email. Accounts still need to be linked to a phone number, but now users have the option to request an authorization code in an alternative way when they cannot receive it via SMS.
It can be convenient to request a 6-digit verification code by email when you are in a place without a cellular connection, but connected to Wi-Fi, or temporarily using another SIM card - for example, on a trip.
To be able to log in via email, you need to link your email to your WhatsApp account. This can be done in the Account settings section.
So far, the ability to add email may not be displayed to all users. It looks like the feature's spread will be gradual over the coming weeks.
