More than 500 cinematographers and film critics have chosen ‘Whiplash’ Tops Sundance Film Festival’s Top 10 Feature Films List From Past Four Decades – Film News in Brief the top ten films, which debuted at the Sundance International Independent Film Festival. This top is timed to coincide with the start of the 40th festival.
Representatives of the film industry chose favorites among almost 4,000 full—length films - Sundance has managed to show so many. And the leader of the top ten was the drama "Obsession" (Whiplash) by Damien Chazelle, starring Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons.
"Obsession" also won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Editing, and J.K. Simmons for Best Supporting Actor.
The second and third places in the list were taken by Quentin Tarantino's 1992 neo-noir film "Mad Dogs" and Jordan Peele's 2017 horror film "Away". Jonathan Dayton's "Little Miss Happiness" and Christopher Nolan's "Memento" round out the top five.
