1. "I can't afford it"

This is a powerful spell that not everyone can cast. The reasons may be different.

For someone, the idea that a thing does not fit into the budget - in general or right now — sends them back to the days of not very rich childhood. Here's a kid who wants a toy, but his mother tells him that there is no money for it and probably won't be. Therefore, as an adult, a person begins to worry, get nervous. And you can calm this feeling only by making a purchase now, proving to yourself that everything is different now.

Someone feels uncomfortable in front of people. And this is often the basis of the sellers' strategy. Let's say a store employee can show the product, give it to use or try it on, and then only name the price. Not everyone can admit that it's expensive, because you kind of show yourself weak in this way. After all, the seller thought that a person could afford it.

But aside from the emotional component, it's okay to give up things that don't fit into your budget. It doesn't make you untenable, bad, or otherwise wrong. Shift the focus from "circumstances force, this thing is too expensive, my income is insufficient" to "I'm deciding here whether to buy or not, and I find that the price of this thing is irrational, I won't take it, this is my decision."

Living within your means is a good strategy that makes life more comfortable in general.

2. "Not spending money is always more profitable than spending it"

Of course, we are talking about promotions and sales. That's the way we humans are built, that we see some offers and discounts - and go to them like Roquefort to the smell of cheese. Because you can buy something profitably.

Of course, there are those who know how to turn any sale around for their own good. But remember, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you went to the store for one thing, and there was a promotion: three for the price of two. And now you are already cruising around the hall in an attempt to pick up two more products — it will be profitable.

If you really like three things and you would have bought them anyway without any discounts, there are no questions. But it often happens that for two laps around the hall behind your back, and everything is not like that. But okay, you can take this and this to get a discount. However, let's do the math. Let's say you have three items for 1.5 thousand rubles each. If you buy everything, you will get 3 thousand at a discount. But you can always buy one and give half as much.

So during the sales season, you should remind yourself more often that the most profitable thing is not to buy anything.

3. "I have nothing to wear it with / I will never use it."

A powerful talisman phrase for enthusiastic natures. For example, you were brought to a craft store. And it seems that now is the time to try yourself in drawing. But just buying an album and pencils is not enough. What kind of artist is without an easel, palette, good canvas, a set of brushes and a beret? All this needs to be taken immediately! At the same time, you generally know about yourself that, as a rule, most ideas end their development at the purchase stage.

Another example is to see a gorgeous blouse with flounces and imagine how you will shine in it. Of course, you have to take it! But actually, your wardrobe is full of jeans and sweatpants, and you need to buy a skirt, shoes, and a purse under your blouse... does it turn out that you need to take all this? Or it's better to admit that flounces and heels didn't leak into your closet before, because you don't wear them and don't like them. And you won't love it, to be honest, so everything will settle on the shelves like a dead weight.

This does not mean that you should never try or wear something new at all. But it's worth honestly admitting to yourself: Are you really going to do this/wear it, or are you just entertained by the very process of planning and shopping? If the latter, then it is better to save money.

4. "I can have fun in another way"

Shopping is not just about exchanging the right goods for money. It's both entertainment and a way to deal with difficult emotions or calm down. I went into the mall in disheveled feelings — I came out happy and with packages.

On the one hand, if it doesn't hit your pocket too hard, you can leave everything as it is. The worst thing that can happen in this situation is that you will have to sort things out more often at home and throw out the excess. If this affects finances significantly or you are simply not a supporter of hoarding, remind yourself more often that problems can be solved not only through shopping.

However, this phrase-talisman works only if you really know what pleases you, or even work on understanding feelings with a psychologist. If, instead of shopping, you have to painfully figure out what gives you pleasure and helps you calm down, it will be even more unnerving, because the solution is simple — just hold out the card.

5. "I will postpone the purchase until tomorrow"

The golden mantra is for those who are prone to impulsive purchases. In general, it is suitable for many situations above, whether it is an easel, a blouse with flounces or a soft plaid for the promotion.

It would seem that it should be easy to refuse purchases, because you can look rationally: you don't really need this product, but money is always useful. But people are irrational. It can be difficult for us to remove emotions when making a decision, and just look at the situation on a scale. Finances are finances, but how nice it will be to take this thing now, carry it home. What if I don't buy it now and then regret it? After all, my hands are shaking, how I want her!

In such a case, do not forbid yourself to buy, just postpone it for tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. It is likely that you will fall asleep thinking about how you will rush to the store the next day. But by morning, the emotional fog will clear up, and it will be easy to give up the thing. Well, if the craving has not passed, perhaps the product is really worth it.
