According to sources close to Microsoft, Windows 11 is currently used on more than 400 million active devices per month. By the beginning of 2024, there will be about half a billion of them, writes Exclusive: Windows 11 is active on almost half a billion devices, ahead of Microsoft’s expectations the authoritative Windows Central portal.

Windows 11 has been on the market since October 2021, which means that it took Microsoft exactly two years to reach the bar of 400 million active devices. This is significantly slower than in the case of Windows 10, which took a little over a year to do so. And by the beginning of 2020, the "ten" was used Windows 10 surpasses 1 billion monthly active devices worldwide on a billion PCs monthly.

This difference in the speed of distribution is explained by the different launch formats of the systems. Windows 10 at the start was a free update for all Windows 8.1 computers and most Windows 7 computers. Moreover, it was possible to download the installer without payment only for a year (initially), which clearly pushed users.

With Windows 11, everything immediately went according to a different scenario, since the OS had high system requirements with the condition of having a TPM encryption module. In fact, this put an end to updating PCs released earlier than 2018. And all those computers that were upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and 8 were left behind.

As a result, Microsoft's internal expectations were quite modest, which is why the company calls the current growth of Windows 11 a success.

And what version of Windows are you on? Write in the comments.
