Google Podcasts will close in April. YouTube Music is being offered to replace it

In September it became known that Google is getting rid of a separate podcast service and is focusing on the development of YouTube Music, in which users can listen to both music and podcasts. Now the company has named Migrating Your Podcasts Shows From Google Podcasts / YouTube Official Blog specific dates: the application will stop working from April 2024.

Users can upload a list of their subscriptions in OPML format to transfer them to another service — you can do this in the settings at this link. We also launched a utility for quickly switching from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music. So far, it is available only in the United States, but later it should be released to users around the world. It will be available directly in the app, and a banner on the main page will announce the release.

Here are the main deadlines for disabling Google Podcasts:

  • March 2024 is the last month when you can listen to podcasts in the app;
  • April 2024 — the official closure of the service;
  • July 2024 is the last month when you can use a quick transition to YouTube Music or transfer your subscription;
  • August 2024 is the last month when you can upload an OPML file with subscriptions.

The specified dates are relevant for users from the USA. Given that the migration utility has not yet been launched in other regions, it is likely that the deadlines will be shifted in other countries.
