Recently we wrote about an excellent feature of mobile Google Maps for the Android platform, which allows you to cache map sections for further offline viewing. In fact, there are many ways to use maps on mobile devices without an active Internet connection.

If you open a regular maps application on your iPhone and plot the route you need while on the Internet, then you can zoom in on the desired scale and view this route on the smartphone screen. All the tiles you see will get into the cache, and you will be able to use them off the Internet. The only "but" — do not change the zoom, other tiles are not cached and you will just see gray squares. The same mechanics work for Google maps on Android.
The owners of the mobile Yandex.Maps application can also view routes for caching and further offline use.
Lonely Planet is a famous series of travel guides to cities and countries. LP has been available for iPhone for several years. In addition to cool descriptions of cities and places, there is always an offline map of the city on which you can see yourself using GPS. There is also a very convenient navigation to places of entertainment and attractions.
To download Lonely Planet, just look for it in the App Store.
I use these cards all the time when traveling abroad. Download a map of the entire city to wi-fi and you can search it, view a huge catalog of objects and use GPS.
What electronic cards do you take on a trip?
