Stardock has long been known for its programs that improve the appearance and sometimes the functionality of the Windows desktop. Often improvements are reduced rather to more pleasant work in a system configured for personal needs, but in this case it does not end there.
The Fences program (6.5 MB, Windows) helps you cope with the dominance of icons on the desktop, organize them. We have already suggested using the desktop itself as a GTD system, but in that case it required accuracy and manual work. With Fences, it is much easier to organize a GDT desktop.
In short, Fences allows you to select certain areas of the desktop for groups of objects. That is why you can always allocate areas for Inbox, Next Actions and auxiliary materials in References.
The program has Beta status, but I personally have not encountered any problems on my Windows XP Pro SP2.
The program comes with several template grouping sets, but you can always either remove unnecessary or add missing ones. In addition, I liked the ability to save the current set as a snapshot to return to it, for example, if you are working with different tasks and would prefer to organize the desktop differently for each of them. Besides, it's just convenient if the new installation doesn't roll.
