Instagram* is a powerful tool with which you can stand out and show your individuality. But we stopped noticing this possibility.
A user under the nickname Oliver KMIA posted a video with a cut of photos from different Instagram* accounts after a trip to Rome. The result was somewhat depressing.
"I was shocked by the mass of people who were walking around the city. I was one of them, neither better nor worse. Like all tourists, I burned a hundred gallons of fuel to get there, take a quick run through the sights and stay at a hotel. Then I remembered the video of the artist Hiérophante, which I saw a few months ago. And I decided to make the same sarcastic video, but with an emphasis on travel and mass tourism," says Oliver.
The video begins with photos of foreign passports, then the wing of the aircraft is used. Then the most interesting thing is countless photos taken from the same angle, in the same poses and with the same filters. Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Machu Picchu and Fushimi Inari Taisha in Japan — all these memorable places have become accumulators for likes and reposts. Food photos, selfies in front of the mirror and feet are also a mandatory element of the traveler's portfolio.
The traveler's experience is no longer unique.
To be honest, for me the wings of an airplane also have a strange appeal, and in Prague I tried to "hold" the tram on the palm of my hand (it didn't work out very well). Oliver himself considers social networks to be just a tool. He says that by researching photos on Instagram*, he was able to find some really interesting inspiring accounts.
Remember the TV series " Black Mirror ". In the first episode of the third season, life revolved around social networks. Creativity and bold decisions have been replaced by pretense and the pursuit of other people's approval. We don't just copy each other, but adapt to the template, because it's easier that way.
Each of us is unique, with his own opinion and views on life. Perhaps it's time to stop licking the Leaning Tower of Pisa in photos and take memorable pictures that will reflect your personality.
