According to AppleInsider, Apple has registered a new patent, according to which notifications will be displayed on the protective cover of the Smart Cover, despite the iPad screen being closed by the accessory. This technology will be possible either thanks to the built-in luminescent or LED display, or with the help of illumination by the iPad screen of a transparent or translucent cover.
With the advent of this technology, it will be possible, for example, to display a new email or an incoming message. They will be displayed on the Smart Cover in the order of priority or indicated in different colors depending on the urgency. The transparent cover gives more opportunities, because it will be possible to display not only various notifications, but also, for example, to tell about the details and participants of the upcoming event in the Calendar.
If we consider another version, an additional source of energy will be required to illuminate the screen on the Smart Cover. Its inflow can be provided either by another way of attaching the cover to the tablet, using MagSafe, or by inductive charging from an iPad or other device.
The changed Smart Cover will most likely have the same design, that is, it will still be able to function as an iPad stand. Since this accessory is very popular, the new notification system will be useful for all iPad users. However, it is still unclear when this new Smart Cover will be introduced, what its disadvantages will be, and how much additional energy will be spent on it from the iPad.
