Google has optimized Gmail separates ‘Report spam & unsubscribe’ to avoid false signals / 9to5google the process of unsubscribing from unwanted mailings in Gmail by adding a new button to the main mail interface. The update allows users to get rid of annoying emails even faster, without affecting the karma of trustworthy senders.
So, on mobile devices (first Android, and soon iOS), the "Unsubscribe" button moved to the main page and is now available even before viewing the conversation. Previously, it was in the three-point menu.
In the desktop version of Gmail, it also became more noticeable by moving to the quick actions panel, where there are already functions "Archive", "Delete" and so on.
At the same time, Google got rid of the combined "Report spam and Unsubscribe" complaint, making it two different functions. There is still one item in the menu, but now when you click on it, you can select either one or the other. In this way, the company wants to reduce the number of false signals.
We know that people often receive unsolicited messages, despite having initially subscribed to them. These emails often come from real companies and organizations, and such cases can negatively affect the reputation of their address.
Previously, the company required mass senders to have a one-click unsubscribe link clearly visible in the body of the message, and the requests themselves were processed within two days. The deadline is February 2024.
