Android 14 will start displaying the battery status

XDA Developers editor Mishaal Rahman found hints of a long-awaited feature in the Android 14 beta: displaying the battery status in the smartphone settings.

A year earlier, the developments of this function were noticed even when parsing the Android 13 code, but it was not possible to complete it for some reason, and the mentions were cut out. Now development has resumed: a number of APIs for the BatteryManager function have been found in the latest build of the Android 14 beta. They are responsible, among other things, for the cycle counter, charging status, production dates and the first use of the battery.

To prove the concept, an enthusiast under the nickname narektor assembled a working battery status tracker, relying entirely on these APIs. He posted his developments on GitLab. It is noted that the application simply collects the data provided by the API, the creator does not vouch for their accuracy.

Such an opportunity has long been available in Apple smartphones and some manufacturers of Android devices with their own shells, including Samsung (via the Galaxy Members app). However, in One UI, only the battery status is displayed, and not the maximum capacity as a percentage. Let's hope that with the release of Android 14, the system will still be equal to iOS and One UI in this regard.
