Since May 23, Tinkoff Bank has started issuing cards of the Chinese UnionPay payment system for all its customers. A virtual card is available absolutely free of charge, and a physical one can be purchased for 1,000 rubles.
The bank has warned that the UnionPay card will not work in the EU countries, the USA, the UK, Georgia and Israel. However, customers will be able to pay her or withdraw money from an ATM in Turkey, the UAE, Thailand, as well as in many countries of Asia, Africa and South America.
Cards of the Chinese payment system will be issued as additional to those available to customers, RBC found out.
Now UnionPay remains the only international payment system that operates in Russia. Officially, the company has not announced the termination of work with sub-sanctioned banks in any way, but there are restrictions in the work.
Tinkoff received the right to issue UnionPay cards at the end of last year. At first, they were issued in a limited mode exclusively to employees and a number of clients. Now the cards are available to everyone.
