Since September, everyone has been waiting for this moment, and finally it happened — the next Apple presentation took place. We were introduced to the new OS X Yosemite, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, updated Mac mini and iMac with Retina display!
When the lights went out, a video was shown on the screen about the newly released iPhone 6. Of course, a huge number of people around the world purchased the new smartphone, moreover, everyone was absolutely satisfied with their purchase. And Tim Cook looked incredibly happy, telling how the sales of the new Apple device were going. During the first month, all records for pre-orders of the new iPhone were broken, and by the end of this week it was already on the shelves of 32 countries around the world. And, in general, it is not surprising that it became the most successful smartphone launch in the history of Apple.
As for Apple Pay, since the introduction of the new payment system, Cupertinos have signed contracts with 500 banks across the country. So she will start working in the USA as early as next Monday.
The topic of the Apple Watch was also touched upon. The good news for developers was the appearance of the WatchKit framework, which will allow you to create your own applications for Apple watches. It will be available starting next month.
To talk about Apple products and the new operating systems that link them together, the inimitable Craig Federighi took the stage.
At the moment, 48% of devices have already switched to iOS 8. Craig told about all her innovations and other novelties that our readers have long been familiar with: HealthKit, new widgets, third-party keyboards, support for Metal and a new language programming Swift. Needless to say, a lot of very interesting and useful features were presented during the June presentation.
Without waiting for the final release of OS X Yosemite, about 1 million people managed to install its beta version. Updated Safari, Spotlight, Messages, iTunes, iWork, new design — many users around the world could enjoy all this. The current Safari now works 6 times faster than other browsers and at the same time saves energy, preventing your laptop battery from emptying quickly.
Thanks to iCloud drive, AirDrop, AirPlay, iOS 8 and Yosemite, all your devices will now work together as a single unit. Thanks to this, you will be able, for example, to receive calls or write SMS not only with your iPhone, but also with all other devices you have.
OS X Yosemite is available now, and it is absolutely free, as is the iWork package. iOS 8.1 will be released this Monday.
Of course, as expected, after the introduction of new operating systems, we talked about the iPad, this thin and light tablet, which can now be seen everywhere. To date, 225 million Apple tablets have already been sold. In terms of the number of sales, it breaks all records and overtakes all PC manufacturers. In the App Store, you can already find 675,000 apps designed specifically for the iPad. Agree, this is a very impressive figure.
So, Phil Schiller came on stage and presented us with the new iPad Air 2. Its thickness is now only 6.1 mm, which means it has become thinner by as much as 18%. And, at the moment, it is the thinnest tablet in the world! Just imagine, even two iPad Air 2 stacked together are thinner than their original great-grandfather. The amount of glare on the screen has been reduced by 56%, which will make it easier to read and view photos in bright light. The tablet now has a new generation of A8X processors and M8 coprocessors. Despite such a significant reduction in thickness, the iPad Air 2 battery will last 10 hours.
The iSight camera in the new iPad Air 2 has also been improved, it has 8 megapixels, an aperture of f2.4, it allows you to shoot 1080p HD video and panoramas with a resolution of 43 megapixels. In addition, the tablet, as well as the iPhone, will be able to shoot Timelapse and Slo-motion videos. The front-facing camera has also improved, it has an f2.2 aperture, it perfectly recognizes faces, which means it makes your selfies even better. And, of course, the Touch ID system has appeared in the new generation of tablets. Where without it, especially since Apple itself told us about this new product in advance, posting screenshots in the iBooks Store. All the features that this system has provided so far for the iPhone will now be available for the iPad.
Very little has been said about the iPad mini 3, in any case, it is known that they still have the same 5-megapixel iSight camera.
The new tablets will appear in three colors: silver, space gray and gold. Pre-orders for the iPad will begin on October 17, but, unfortunately, so far only in the USA.
After the iPad, we talked about another product of the company — the Mac. The number of macs sold increased by 18%, despite the fact that sales of other computers only plummeted. Of course, Apple could not leave this unnoticed and decided to release a new product from this line, and it became an iMac with Retina Display!
The resolution of the 27-inch iMac Retina Display screen is 5120 x 2880 pixels, with a total of 14.7 million pixels. And this is the highest resolution of screens in the world — Retina 5K display. It is bigger than 4K monitors by as much as 67%.
A special “timing controller” chip is built into the screen, which controls the display. Thanks to the new backlight, the computer consumes 30% less energy, despite such a huge number of pixels.
In addition to the new display, it has an Intel i5 processor with a frequency of 3.5 GHz, which, if desired, can be replaced with an i7 with a frequency of 4 GHz. AMD Radeon R9 graphics card, Thunderbolt 2, 1 TB Fusion drive — all this you can find in the new iMac with Retina Display.
The price of the new iMac starts at $2,499, and sales will begin today.
On top of everything else, the Mac mini was also updated. Their processors and graphics have also become faster, and they have also been equipped with two Thunderbolt 2 ports. The price of the NAMAs mini starts at $499, and they are also available from today!
Well, did the Cupertinos meet your expectations? In my opinion, the broadcast, as well as the presentation itself, went just fine!
