There are rumors on the World Wide Web that Apple is planning to release a new version of the iPod Touch player, now equipped with a built-in camera and microphone. This will make the iPod even more similar to another Apple brainchild – the iPhone.
At the moment, the most recent rumor is that in China, the Apple factory has already begun to produce a new model of the player. This was written in one of the publications in Wired. However, official representatives of the company state that they do not comment on assumptions and rumors.
If the new information about innovation is true, then the iPod is really reaching a new level. The player already has the function of wireless Internet connection via Wi-Fi. And with the fact that it will also have a microphone built in, this will allow users to communicate via voice over IP protocol in Wi-Fi coverage areas. That is, the iPod Touch will turn into a full-fledged Skype phone.
With voice recognition and video recording capabilities, the iPod will look even more like the iPhone 3GS. The president of EndPoint Technologies Associates, Roger Kay, even believes that the new iPod will be released in September – at the beginning of the new academic year. Mr. Kay also hopes that, despite the increasing similarity of the iPod with other Apple devices, the company will still keep its products close to their original appearance – so that the communicator looks more like a phone in terms of ease of use, and the iPod looks like a player, not a handset. Indeed, in comparison with other corporations, it is this differentiated approach to products that distinguishes Apple from everyone.
