The Dev Team announced that the next bastion of Apple has fallen. In this case, the latest firmware for iPhone version 3.1, as well as for iPod Touch version 3.1.1, succumbed. For users who want to access the file system of their gadget with the latest firmware installed, that is, to make a so-called jailbreak, Dev Team offers the PwnageTool 3.1 tool.
With it, you can hack the iPhone 2G (the first-generation device, the one with the aluminum back cover), iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 1G. Unfortunately, while the PwnageTool 3.1 program is useless for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G and 3G players. iPhone 3G users with a modem blocked for a certain operator can update the phone's firmware only through an IPSW file created using this utility. Let me remind you that in the case of an update using the original Apple firmware file version 3.1, the firmware version of the modem will be raised, after which the Ultrasn0w utility for unlocking it, which allows you to use SIM cards of any cellular operators with the phone, will be useless. After processing the original firmware file using PwnageTool 3.1, the modem upgrade is removed from it. That is, the modem version remains from firmware 3.0/3.01, and it is unlockable.
As for the iPhone 2G, Apple has not updated the modem of this phone for a long time and in this case there is nothing to fear, PwnageTool 3.1 does a full-fledged jailbreak and unlock of the device. Among the features of this release, it is worth noting the possible disappearance of the operator's name and logo after the jailbreak. But this is just a cosmetic bug. The signal level indicator remains in its proper place and performs its function properly. In the next release of PwnageTool, Dev Team enthusiasts promise to fix this error.
