Images of kayaks are being discussed online. Can you distinguish a neural network image from a real photo?

In one of the new popular posts on Reddit, a user with the nickname differentspectat0r decided to check whether the readers of the site will be able to identify an image generated by artificial intelligence. To do this, he published two images with kayaks. Only one of them is a real photo. Can you guess which one?

So: right or left? We hide the answer and a number of very accurate comments from Reddit readers under a spoiler.

Of course, the AI picture is on the left, and the real photo is on the right. Most readers correctly identified the creation of the neural network, but interestingly, users argued their decision in different ways. Here are some interesting comments:

"On the left is AI, I think. These branches don't look real, but it's convincing. I'll be doubly impressed if I'm wrong."

MoraugKnower

"Yes, real trees don't grow like that, but you can understand why the AI "thinks" they are growing. Because in fact, he does not know that trees are "growing" at all, he just sees a static object. I believe that any complex organic structure like this causes difficulties for AI."

No_Imagination_2490

"This is the right approach, but I paid attention to the ropes in the foreground that give out AI. He doesn't know what they are for and why they always have to be continuous, so he draws something similar to chopsticks from the same materials.

lordnacho666

"I assume that the average citizen who never touches a canoe or anything where ropes are used will not pay attention to them.

I didn't look at the trees on purpose, but I didn't catch my eye on them either. We are at a point where our natural senses of "vision" can be completely deceived, and only our awareness of the context will help to identify some inconsistencies. Even I had to look at the ropes twice.

My main clue was that the shadows from the ropes on the hard plastic fell in opposite directions."

BodyMean11235

"The rope only goes halfway through the dry run compartment [of the sealed backpack]."

Suitable_Designer_67

"And I noticed the strange water pearls [drops] at the bottom of the picture."

captaincodein

"Damn, for me, the water and the boat instantly gave out [AI], but the branches are even better indicators, I didn't pay attention to them until I read the comments."

Enliof

"The AI was given out by the boat itself, such a kayak would never be so dry."

Scary-Case-6104

Some commentators have rightly pointed out that with such rapid progress, AI work will soon become indistinguishable from photographs.

"Give him a few years to "learn" and I think we won't be able to say anything more. It's actually very scary. And I've never been afraid of technological progress before."

ThrashMeatle

"While we are discussing all this, the AI can read and analyze our comments, trying to improve itself."
