Mullvad Browser is developed based on the Firefox ESR engine and includes useful features that are in Tor. But at the same time Mullvad does not use this network. Instead, you will need any convenient VPN service. This is easier for most users who need a high level of privacy.
The browser offers three security modes: Standard, Safer and Safest. They use different levels of protection, which can be selected depending on the needs at the moment. In private browsing mode, after each closing of the program, these cookies are deleted, as well as the history of opening pages. For confidential search, the DuckDuckGo system is installed by default.
Mullvad Browser provides HTTPS Only traffic encryption for all sites. There is also a blocking of tracking and advertising scripts through the built-in extensions NoScript and Ublock Origin.
The browser supports protection against device identification — it does not allow third-party resources to access the API and program functions. Modules for working with graphics, external devices and other elements are disabled or restricted here: WebGL, WebGL2, Social, SpeechSynthesis, Touch, Gamepad, Sensors, Performance, AudioContext, HTMLMediaElement, Mediastream, Canvas, SharedWorker, Permissions, mediaDevices.enumerateDevices and screen.orientation. In addition, the sending of telemetry data is blocked.
There is also letterboxing protection — the user will not be able to calculate the size of the program window due to the addition of margins around the content of the pages.
Mullvad Browser applies the principle that creates a single fingerprint of parameters and characteristics for all launching the application. The operating system, time zone, fonts, and browser version are the same when scanned by third-party resources. So it is much more difficult to compare a specific device with its characteristics.
The platform runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and offers free access for everyone. The official website with the application download page will most likely have to be opened via VPN. An alternative option is to download the latest version from GitHub.
