Apple presented at the WWDC conference a new tool for Game Porting Tool developers. With it, you can quickly transfer games from Windows to macOS.
Now, before porting games from DirectX 12 to Metal 3, developers will have the opportunity to test them under the new system. The company demonstrated the work of this tool using the example of The Medium — it was really quickly transferred and optimized for a new engine without changes in the code.
In addition to porting and optimizing, the Game Porting Tool helps to add support for game controllers, spatial audio and an HDR effect.
Some Reddit users have already installed and launched Cyberpunk 2077 on M1 MacBook Pro, Diablo IV on M1 Max MacBook Pro and Hogwarts Legacy on M2 Max. The first results look promising, despite some obvious performance limitations, they note.
However, with such a launch of games on Mac, potential errors may occur related to the rejection of the new environment, the company warns. In such cases, developers will still have to create their own ports.
You can download the Game Porting Toolkit on the company's website and on the page GitHub.
