The Mimestream 1.0 application has become available to macOS users . This is an unofficial client of the Gmail mail service from former Apple Mail developer Neil Javery. The service has been developed for more than two years, and all this time testers could use its beta version.
Mimestream uses the official Gmail API to work, and not the standard IMAP protocol for email clients. The application was developed on the basis of Swift, SwiftUI and AppKit, which allows you to use the system capabilities of macOS. In particular, notifications, dark mode, trackpad gestures and keyboard shortcuts.
The Mimestream interface will be familiar to many Apple Mail users. But the functionality is very similar to Gmail. By the way, the application is intended exclusively for access to the Google service. There may be support for other services in the future.
New features have been added to Mimestream for the official release:
In total, the service now has more than 100 options.
However, there is a fly in the ointment: during beta testing, Mimestream was free, but after the official release it will be offered by subscription - $4.99 (≈400 rubles) per month or $49.99 (≈4,000 rubles) per year. Until June 9, a 12-month plan can be issued for $ 29.99 (≈2,400 rubles).
Beginners are offered a free 14-day trial version, which is available without registering a payment card. You can download it on the website of the company. The app will appear in the App Store within a few days.
