How to use time in traffic jams

Residents of modern cities, and traffic jams are now found even in not very large cities, lose an unthinkable amount of time during the seemingly inevitable downtime. Using it to good use is a wonderful challenge for every person who dreams of effectively achieving their goals. Many of the tips, of course, are obvious and you probably use them yourself without advisers, but something may seem new and useful to you.

First, let's think about whether it is possible to try to avoid traffic jams. There are only three scenarios: you change the travel time, route or transport. None of the methods can be recognized as universal, and therefore you should think about each of them. Carefully study the cyclicity of traffic jams and possible detours. I will suggest systematic people to record their daily observations — this may help later. Explore the surrounding streets, perhaps detours still exist. Try at some stage to leave the car in the parking lot, using public transport, or taking a shortcut on foot (in private it is much faster, although our weather is not always pleasing).

But if you are still stuck in traffic, then you should think about a useful waste of time.

  • I consider listening to audio books to be the first and probably the most appropriate way to use time.
  • You can also think over the ideas that are being born and even record them, if not on paper, then on the dictaphone of your mobile phone.
  • You can make the necessary calls (use the headset if you are driving).
  • You can try to perform simple exercises and pull the muscles that are tense during the day.
  • You can even have a snack if you worry about breakfast/dinner in advance.
  • You can give someone a ride and this will free up space for one car, ensuring a conversation.
  • You can behave in accordance with the rules, which will eliminate the traffic jam faster. Do not squeeze into any free space — «Do not crunch-skip!»

All these tips apply to drivers, but if you are a passenger, then the range of things that you can do is truly huge, from entertainment like movies and television, to full-fledged work with your PDA or even laptop.

If you have other interesting ways to use the time lost in traffic jams, welcome to the comments.
