The photographer "cut" smartphones out of people's hands and showed how lonely we are

Many people almost never let their smartphone out of their hands. We got so used to it that we stopped noticing how stupid it sometimes looks. A series by American photographer Eric Pickersgill reminds that life could be much more interesting without mobile devices.

The series called Removed consists of portraits of people who are completely focused on their smartphones. There is one "but": in fact, they have nothing in their hands. Eric asked the models to take such strange poses to convey their thoughts to others.

Pickersgill began filming the series in 2014 in the USA. He took most of the pictures in his home state of North Carolina.

It's not just about smartphones, but also about tablets (or about the Nintendo Switch?).

In June 2018, Eric began filming the series in Asia — Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore and Indonesia.

All this concerns not only the younger generation.

Pickersgill is going to publish a similar series from India in the near future. All the pictures can be viewed on his website.
