Google has released a public beta version of App Runtime Chrome (ARC). This is a tool that will allow developers to run their Android applications on any desktop using the Chrome browser.
ARC allowed Android applications to run on Chrome OS, and for a long time was available only to a limited number of developers. Now the company has released ARC Welder, which will allow any user to run an Android application on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. In just two clicks, it solves the problem of converting a mobile application to the desktop version. For this task, he will only need the APK file of the Android application.
The guys from TheNextWeb even managed to test the new tool and made sure that the Android version of Twitter works fine on Windows. However, there is one feature. ARC runs on Android 4.4, not Android 5.0 Lollipop.
In addition to ARC Welder, ARC includes some Google Play services that are necessary to run programs using OAuth2, Google Cloud Messaging, Google+. Since all Google Play services are not yet included in ARC, some applications, for example, with in-game purchases, are still falling. But, most likely, the company will try to solve these problems in the near future.
This is a big event in mobile development, because now developers will be able to create universal Android applications suitable for both mobile devices and desktops.
