Android Smartphone Manufacturers are "cheating" Benchmarks

The smartphone performance race is gaining momentum with each generation. This is especially funny, considering that all this power has long surpassed the necessary level for the normal operation of the operating system and most games. Flagship smartphones are growing up and out — it begins to seem that manufacturers would be happy to stop, but the excitement is in full swing. So what are these incredibly powerful processors for? Of course, for synthetic tests. And since all methods are good in war, manufacturers decided to deceive benchmarks, which means users.

The main crook, who would have thought, was Samsung. Representatives of the Arstechnica portal decided to test the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and came to rather curious conclusions. The results of the gadget were higher than those of the LG G2, which also recently entered the market. Both devices boast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors, which means their results should be identical.

Such an event has already happened earlier this year, but then the hero of the scandal was Samsung Galaxy S4. The whole point lies in the special mode of operation of the CPU, which pumps up performance and power consumption during popular tests. But the trick was calculated, and by changing the version of one of the benchmarks, it was possible to see real results. It is not difficult to guess that they were significantly lower than stated.

But it turned out that Samsung is not alone in its "deception". So, for example, HTC One and One mini smartphones are also accelerating to sky-high heights after seeing famous tests. I think this trick is used in all HTC devices, but only recently released smartphones participated in the tests.

As for the increase in results, it all depends on the benchmark, but sometimes they reached a serious 10%. It is worth noting the honesty of Motorola smartphones, the Nexus line and the NVidia Shield game console. They have passed the AnandTech test with dignity. But other corporations are silent, apparently hoping that the story will be forgotten and the case will be "hushed up".
