For many years, the App Store has been the most popular platform for downloading mobile applications in the world. But it seems that very soon the leadership will be taken over by the app store for Android OS — Google Play. Why would this happen?
In terms of the total number of downloads, the App Store is still ahead of its competitor (50 versus 48 billion downloads), but on a monthly basis Android users were more active — they download 2.5 billion apps from Google Play, which is 500 million more than the App Store.
If this continues, then in a few months the number of downloads from Google Play will exceed the figures of the App Store. Of course, this is due to the large number of devices running on Android — Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG and many other manufacturers produce their smartphones on this operating system.
Despite this, the App Store remains the most profitable platform for developers. 73% of all revenue from mobile applications falls on the Apple app store, while Google Play accumulates only 27%. However, the share of Android is slowly but surely growing, and the Cupertinos need to be on their guard so that Google does not seize the initiative in this field as well.
