Apple has released the first public betas of its new operating systems for smartphones, tablets and computers. All users of compatible gadgets can test them — even without a developer account.

iOS 17

In the new version of the system for iPhone, the most interesting innovation is the StandBy mode, which allows you to use your smartphone as a smart screen. It can be turned on when the gadget is placed in landscape orientation and is not in use.

How to install iOS 17:

  1. Go to the beta testing site Apple Beta Software Program Apple.
  2. Register and enter the data from your Apple ID.
  3. On your smartphone, open the iOS settings — "Basic" → "Software Update" → "Beta Updates".
  4. Select iOS 17 Public Beta, reboot your device and download the firmware.

We recommend that you first make a backup copy of your data in the Apple ID → iCloud settings.

Apple smartphones are compatible with iOS 17, starting with the iPhone XS, iPhone SE 2, iPhone XR and all newer models.

iPadOS 17

The tablet system is primarily attracted by the new lock screen, interactive widgets and the adapted Health application. The instructions for installing the beta here are the same as in the case of the iPhone.

You can install iPadOS 17 on iPad Pro (from 2nd generation), iPad Air (from 3rd generation), iPad (from 6th generation) and iPad mini (from 5th generation).

macOS 14 Sonoma

macOS 14 Sonoma

The OS for Mac received desktop widgets, separate profiles in Safari and a game mode that improves performance and reduces the latency of connected Bluetooth devices.

How to install macOS 14 Sonoma:

  1. Open the beta versions website Apple Beta Software Program Apple software via Safari.
  2. Register with your Apple ID or click on "Sign in" if you have used beta firmware before.
  3. Select macOS and download the utility to access the public beta version of the system.
  4. Run the utility file in the image to subscribe to receive beta updates.
  5. Go to the system settings section "General" and open "Software Update".
  6. Select the "Beta updates" option.
  7. Check the box for "macOS Sonoma Public Beta" and download the new firmware.

The system is supported on the following computers:

  • iMac 2019 and newer;
  • iMac Pro 2017;
  • MacBook Air 2018 and newer;
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and newer;
