Apple has released the first public betas of its new operating systems for smartphones, tablets and computers. All users of compatible gadgets can test them — even without a developer account.
iOS 17
In the new version of the system for iPhone, the most interesting innovation is the StandBy mode, which allows you to use your smartphone as a smart screen. It can be turned on when the gadget is placed in landscape orientation and is not in use.
On your smartphone, open the iOS settings — "Basic" → "Software Update" → "Beta Updates".
Select iOS 17 Public Beta, reboot your device and download the firmware.
We recommend that you first make a backup copy of your data in the Apple ID → iCloud settings.
Apple smartphones are compatible with iOS 17, starting with the iPhone XS, iPhone SE 2, iPhone XR and all newer models.
iPadOS 17
The tablet system is primarily attracted by the new lock screen, interactive widgets and the adapted Health application. The instructions for installing the beta here are the same as in the case of the iPhone.
You can install iPadOS 17 on iPad Pro (from 2nd generation), iPad Air (from 3rd generation), iPad (from 6th generation) and iPad mini (from 5th generation).
macOS 14 Sonoma
The OS for Mac received desktop widgets, separate profiles in Safari and a game mode that improves performance and reduces the latency of connected Bluetooth devices.
