Always question everything

Have you noticed what a nasty world we live in? I am serious, and I do not put myself under the blows of smiling, loving, positive-thinking people with an open mind and a desire to devote myself to everyone around me to the last drop of vital juices. I mean that we, looking down and chewing the food and mental gum given to us, are used to taking everything for granted. But the greater the information conductivity of the world and the opportunity to look around, the more disgusting it is on the soul of who we have become. And you can continue to chew gum in the new world, or you can start living by taking the best for yourself.

Often in Life Hacker articles we look for hot topics, study facts and write articles, sometimes we translate other people's thoughts, because we are aware that we do not live in the center of the world, we have not been the most reading nation for a long time, our universities generate slag and lumpen, and any smart student drapes that there is urine in the direction of the Valley, Cern, Oxoford, Singapore or another similar place where he will not be lonely from understanding that everything is wrong.

Have you ever asked yourself why simple, often primitive, Kickstarter projects make so much noise? Why does the film take an Oscar for mere pennies, and the "great film about the great war" gathers only a full hall of invisible people? Why is no one interested in the new TIMEX watch, and Pebble makes bloggers write about it again and again? Why does everyone want a Nest thermostat, even though free thermostats already stand in private homes? Why are we surrounded by people who are unhealthy in body and mind, who know for sure that they are doing everything right and produce new people who know how, but do not know why exactly?

There is only one reason — doubt. Some doubt, others do not. Please note that the most successful projects — both in the physical and virtual world — are the fruit of the doubt of one person who developed the idea and found like-minded people. One doubted that athletes need to carry a belt with a cardio sensor on their chest as before. Another is that modern thermostats have not fulfilled the increased needs for a long time and a new one is needed. The third is that the universe is expanding, but in no way static as the masses believed.

Look at all the branches of life around you. I will touch only on what excites me today, and you can think of what is interesting to you and share in the comments if you want.

Food

Look in the refrigerator — everything that has colorful packaging is not right to eat. Sausage has not been made of meat for a long time, and boiled sausage will be gray and even brown in reality, if it were not for dyes. To get drunk, only pure water is enough — juices with sugar, fizzy drinks with gas with a giant sugar content you do not need. You don't need coffee and tea to cheer up in the morning. Just do a jog or a warm-up, endorphins will tear you apart and you will rush to work. Drink coffee and tea only understanding why you like them, understand their tastes and then they will make sense. Look at dairy products — milk often does not curdle and rots, cottage cheese is generally immortal, cheese is just a mass of fat, dyes, thickeners, emulsifiers and other rubbish, yogurt ... does anyone even understand what yogurt is today? And why is "fitness yogurt" fatly written "0% fat", but not a word about the fact that 20% sugar is mixed right next to it? What kind of fitness is this, huh? And when they tell you that milk is a valuable source of calcium, then ask yourself "how does a cow chewing corn and giving 30 liters of milk a day to a sucking machine with tubes so much calcium 24/7/365?!" When they tell you that meat is a valuable source of protein, then ask about the protein content in beans, avocados and compare it with the meat of a milch tortured cow (choose the meat of the right cows!) Catch yourself thinking that imprints are sewn in your head, the source of which has long been forgotten and you do not understand why you believe in them at all.

Force yourself to think.

Alcohol

There are several default ready-made models of why we drink alcohol and, having asked ourselves, the answers will be as follows:

  • he helps me relax after work
  • it's just really delicious
  • I like the subculture of wine/whiskey/beer lovers/...
  • it's easier to get loose in a company/club

Ask about the nature of sleep — alcohol dehydrates you, makes your sleep intermittent and incomplete, it gives you a headache and a bunch of other crap. In the club, you really liberate yourself (for the unique ability to liberate yourself under alcohol, there are legends about our brother in the world), but why would you put yourself in the environment of those people with whom you are not comfortable — question the quality of your environment, change it if you have not done anything with them for a long time except "blue". Whiskey connoisseurs, wine connoisseurs — they dig the topic extremely deeply and it's very interesting with them, but sooner or later they will admit to you that they have become part of the marketing machine of an alcohol manufacturer and all the magic is not so magic. It's delicious, it's interesting, but only one tea is so much more diverse than all these bottles that you won't have enough life to try everything. Why don't you comprehend the variety of kung fu if you crave knowledge? There to comprehend and comprehend. Understand why you drink alcohol, and then drink — there is nothing wrong with moderate consumption.

Startups

As I wrote above, projects built on doubt are the most interesting. Take a kettle — it is not convenient and really slows down. The computer is warming up. The phone runs out of battery quickly. A rag does not wash the floor well. Ticks live in carpets. Heating the house is too energy-consuming. The road to work is a burning of life. Work is not loved (not by everyone :). The water cooler is bubbling too much. The pen hurts my fingers, and writing by hand on tablets is the lot of perverts and for some reason the paper still rules. The browser does not understand the voice well. The car eats too much gasoline. Sex has become a commodity, although it should only be pure pleasure. Meetings are annoying, etc., etc.

Take up any of the listed problems and solve it. Spend years on it and you will not only make the world a better place, you will become indescribably rich. Only by fixing the crack in the universe. But first you need to understand where this crack is.

Sports

One day recently I was listening to a podcast about the methods of triathlon classes, which I am currently engaged in. One participant said that he takes 20 hours a week — runs half marathons and marathons every day, rides hundreds of kilometers on a bicycle. The other one runs one marathon a week and rides an hour on a bike a week. But the second one does interval training and hill running — he packs the first one's hours into minutes and performs much more effectively. He questioned the accepted training system by simply burrowing into the topic and corrected rotten dogmas.

Wherever I look in sports, there are only dogmas everywhere. It's the right way to run, but it's not. IRONMAN champions don't care about all this — they run very differently and win without knowing what is right and what is not:

Go to the pool and there they will tell you that you need to be a broad—shouldered flounder to swim normally - more effort, more strokes, higher speed, hammer-hammer-hammer. But look at the Total Immersion technique (read the book "Deep Immersion") and you will understand that there is no place for imprints here either. I began to swim almost twice as fast just by trying to change the technique — I didn't pump the "cans", I didn't beat the pool.

And so it is in everything.

The result

Stop looking for idols, role models. Stop believing in what grandmothers and mothers believed and people close to death believe very much. Do not go to church on Sundays if you do not understand why it is for you personally, not for your children, not for your believing wife, but only for you. Spit on the society that condemns you — the world is big and there are many good places where you will be welcome. Do not accept the models imposed at school if you do not understand their essence. Do not accept anything that you do not understand, that you have not seen and are able to study. Look for something that annoys you, that pisses you off every day, but you are used to it and put up with it, and start changing. Look for like-minded people and ask questions. Don't say that meat is for protein, milk is for calcium, holes in the roads are because the climate is like this, thieves are around because the country is not the same, a vacation is when two months a year, and a PO is when there is enough for loans and an apartment is in debt for 30 years.

Force yourself to think more often and tomorrow you will not be able to live without it. And that's fine!
