Yoga, considered as a discipline of mind and body, is a truly inexhaustible source of energy. By practicing yoga regularly, you can significantly improve your health, improve your well-being, learn to relax and resist stress. The effect of regular training is noticeable after a month and a half: endurance, performance increases, the ability to think creatively develops. To practice yoga, neither expensive subscriptions, nor specialized accessories, nor the study of complex techniques are needed. But why do many neglect such a simple, cheap and effective means to maintain the body and mind in harmony?
Perhaps this is due to some well-established stereotypes and misconceptions. So, don't believe if you are told that:
This statement has nothing to do with reality. Different styles of yoga imply different loads, but in general, you will have to sweat a lot at any class. The exception is perhaps such exotic styles of yoga as musical (sound). In any case, learning full control over the body and mind is not easy and not at all "lazy". Often there is a reverse misconception, namely ...
Of course, there are extremely "slimming" styles, such as weight-loss and power yoga, invented by Americans. Training in such styles lasts about an hour and a half, asanas change very quickly, combined with rhythmic breathing. However, this yoga is more like aerobics (only much more difficult). In most of the styles we practice, for example, classical Hatha yoga, anaerobic exercise prevails, which contributes to weight loss very moderately. To avoid disappointment, know that if you have problems with excess weight, yoga will only help to tone your muscles.
Incense, strange music, not the most masculine poses, monotony – all this turns men away from yoga. Tough guys don't do the splits, but go to the rocking chair – well, perhaps. But yoga provides something that is difficult to get in the gym: the ability to focus, flexibility, endurance, and can be a great addition to a bodybuilder's schedule.
There is a grain of truth here. I really want to get up in asanas on the seashore, greeting the rising sun, but reality steadily leads us to stuffy evening sessions in fitness centers. But success also depends on the degree of concentration – those who are fascinated and fascinated by the process will not be hindered by the views of high-rise buildings outside the window. Many manage to bring romance into everyday workouts by finding interesting places to practice, such as parks or rooftops. I recommend watching the inspiring yoga podcasts of Tara Styles, who always finds interesting locations for yoga classes in a big city.
This stereotype is probably formed by the shows seen on TV with the participation of professional Indian yogis demonstrating the wonders of flexibility and strength. Remember: yoga is not a competition, there are no strong and weak, winners or losers. That's why it's good, because it can give a lot, regardless of the level of physical fitness.
Don't let stereotypes hinder your new endeavors.
You may ask, why do you need yoga at all? Well, this question has already been answered by the founder of the largest yoga school B.S.K. Iyengar: "Someone, at least, will be able to tie their own shoelaces at the age of eighty, and someone will comprehend the mystery of life ."
