You probably noticed that our brain constantly returns thoughts to the problems that surround us. But in fact, it is rather a waste of energy and increased stress. Whatever the reason: a negligent colleague or a difficult client – these are the little things that can capture all our thoughts.
Karl Stib noticed that 99% of worries and anxieties are just attempts at self–justification. For example, the idea of solving a problem that came insomniac from anxiety at night is unlikely to be so brilliant in the morning. Our brain is just trying to calm the swarming thoughts and gives out almost the first solution that comes along.
When we are determined to consider a task from all sides, it is difficult not to succumb to the temptation to think about the same aspect over and over again. Thoughts spin like a squirrel in a wheel, but something new rarely appears at the exit. Always stop yourself, don't let yourself drive thoughts around in circles. It's better to start doing.
Carl found a solution in writing down all his thoughts just before going to bed. Moreover, he does it practically in bed, and if some thought does not allow him to relax, it is better to spend five minutes recording.
Well, if some crazy thought arises already in the process of falling asleep or even destroys your nap, you should not be tempted to write it down, because most likely it is not worth it, rest is more important in this case: concentrate on relaxing your muscles and breathing properly.
Karl notes that a balanced attitude to thoughts allowed him to evaluate thoughts more correctly. Instead of rat racing in bed, the pleasure of relaxation appeared. Well, the paper next to the bed at the same time will not let you lose your evening ideas.
Throwing thoughts on paper, not letting them swarm, you will not only improve your sleep, but also get more time for the family, because nothing will distract you from talking with your wife or son. A page of paper and a pen turned out to be a good solution for Karl, perhaps they will suit you, because most time management systems start with this – write everything down and free your mind.
