The National Museum of Games (Strong National Museum of Play) named video games that will be included in the World Hall of Fame this year. These will be The Last of Us, Wii Sports, Barbie Fashion Designer and Computer Space.
The winners were chosen based on a number of criteria, including their influence on the industry and time-tested popularity. The finalists also included Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, FIFA International Soccer, Goldeneye 007, NBA 2K, Quake and Wizardry.
With The Last of Us, everything is clear: it has long been popular and can already be considered a cult, and after the release of the eponymous series , even people far from video games learned about computer horror. More than 200 publications named the zombie action movie the best game of 2013.
The game Wii Sports appeared in 2006. The museum noted that it has become one of the best-selling sports simulators of all time.
Barbie Fashion Designer from Mattel and Digital Domain released in 1996. In the first two months alone, it sold half a million copies. "Its developers have proved that a game for girls can be successful," the museum added.
Computer Space was released in 1962 and was then the first commercial video game. Thanks to its success, Atari appeared, which soon developed Prince of Persia and a number of other legendary games of the 80s.
New members of the World Video Game Hall of Fame will be officially presented in the museum space on June 30. Strong National Museum of Play is located in Rochester (New York, USA).
