Crossover Games: Windows games on Mac

Until now, the choice of macs wishing to play Windows games on their favorite platform was not rich. For the most part, it is divided into installing, in fact, Windows (bootcamp) and using one of the emulation options.

I will tell you about one of these methods now. Crossover Games is a variant of the famous Wine emulator, sharpened for games. It translates into Russian roughly as follows: "if you're lucky, you'll be able to play something not very new and fancy."

Each game is stored in a separate "sandbox", referred to here as a bottle. To install, it is enough to insert the game disc into the drive when Crossover is running, or point the program to the installer file, which it will try to run. The installation process is not fundamentally different from that in Windows, except that the window headers have the usual aqua decor, and the programs themselves report "some" C:program filesyada-yada. Ideally, the process is as follows: create a new bottle, "stuff" the game there and then launch it by double-clicking on the app file created by the program. This is in theory. In practice, you will first have to wait until the bottle is created, then you can try to run the installer, hoping that it will end correctly, and then try to run the game itself, which may also refuse to work without additional explanations. In short, out of a dozen toys launched for the sake of interest, only half managed to be installed, and only half of the remaining ones worked normally. Maybe I was just unlucky, maybe I was doing something wrong (the Macbook is clearly not a gaming machine, and not all of the games being launched were listed as supported), but the fact is. In fairness, I note that in the "parallels" with their vaunted support for games, not everything can be launched either.

On the other hand, if Crossover really gives someone the opportunity to play their favorite games, then why not? Besides, why not try the program yourself: what if you get lucky? I was probably unlucky.

The price of joy is 40 green rubles.

PS: from what I remembered (offhand), Tutrix, FAKK2 worked fine (by the way, it does not go under XP, although there were serious problems with the mouse here), Warhammer 40K Soulstorm passed tests, but refused to work because of the protection system that did not see the disk, Knight Shift could not be installed, the Unreal anthology was installed, but none of the games worked properly (white screen), Gish could not be installed.

P.S.: no, I do not know if Game X will work under Crossover on your computer or not.
