We all know from childhood that people keep diaries. For children, these are notebooks with stickers and mental suffering. But adults often stop keeping a diary – there is too little time, there is no time to think, etc. And many more confuse a personal diary with a personal blog. What is a diary and why it is worth keeping it for everyone, I will tell you with an example from my personal life.

In general, you need to write in a diary everything that bothers you and makes you very happy – the main thing is to be honest with yourself. If you write about work, then do not forget to describe your joys and punctures, achievements and mistakes. Tag people and events, projects and places. Describe honestly your emotions and embarrassments. Be sure to assign points to the events described – from 1 to 5.
The main thing is honesty and frankness – as in confession.
You will never be honest in public. You will not write that you have failed the project and only you are to blame for this. You will not write about problems with a loved one and that your relative has health problems. You will not write bold plans, because you will be afraid of being ridiculed. Everyone in a personal blog writes only what they will be praised for. Only a diary that is closed from outsiders will allow you to write everything in it exactly as you saw and experienced it.
Blog diary is not a hindrance.
I worked for almost a year in a company that is the best place to work in the post-Soviet space for creative and thinking people — almost everyone wants to work there. There, goodies in the form of a comfortable office, perfect furniture and excellent equipment, which others only dream of, fall on you like a hail. The people around are just a dream. However, while working there, I was uncomfortable with the corporate culture that had developed over the years of rapid growth, which simply oppressed me (it just didn't suit me, it doesn't mean that it's bad). Almost every day I began to write down all my thoughts in a diary program on my iPhone. It was possible to tag people, events and places there. Mark projects that were touched by the record. And most importantly, to give the records points – from 1 to 5. Why is this all?
You live day after day and experience a lot of emotions – good and bad. But our memory is so arranged that summing up some results, for example monthly, we incorrectly perceive what happened – mostly good remains, and our brain displaces the negative from the overall picture. And based on this remaining picture, you make incorrect conclusions about where your place is and what you should do for the rest of your life. There are a lot of examples of such an incorrect analysis: the army from which hazing and beatings are forgotten and only good memories remain, you will not remember anything bad about old classmates, the student years – idealized and forgotten are facing us with a continuous party and an ocean of pleasant experiences. It wasn't like that, this is how you recreate it in your subconscious and want to be small again, go to school and go back to college.
So about my story… The dream company in my head, which has forgotten all the negative, has crumbled into a single oil painting in the diary program and received 3.2 points out of 5 for the time of keeping records, my own ratings and colleagues and partners have received (now I rely not on my memories working with them, but on analysis). When making the decision to quit, I ran through the notes and realized that nothing keeps me in the dream company.
I will tell you about the programs for keeping a diary that I have tried in the next story.
Do you keep a diary?
