What do they read in successful IT companies? How do books help talented developers and managers? How do companies organize their libraries? About this joint project Lifehacker.ru and publishing houses "Mann, Ivanov and Ferber" — "Bookshelf".

Today we will take a look at the library of an authorized Apple dealer — iLand.

The library, and the iLand company in general, began with the book "How to Survive among Sharks" by Harvey McKay. The book of the 1991 edition, with a foreword by Igor Lipsitz, if anyone remembers such. However, in addition to a dozen useful ideas, it very clearly describes the essence of CRM systems, with practical examples of use. CRM of course analog, warm tube;) According to it, in fact, we started writing to FileMaker — our first CRM database.

Another book we started with is "Personal Quality" by Time Management International publishing house. We are still doing the first training on it for employees on receiving calls.

Now we read often and a lot. Although you are not doing it yet, reading, as you know, does not guarantee anything and does not give any advantages.

We have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to read the most sensible books. You need to work with them. Therefore, we purchase several copies at once and distribute them to employees for processing. From the latest examples, we bought 3 copies of Igor Mann's "Points of Contact" and Tom Peters' "These Important Little Things".

Homepage Usability of Jacob Nielsen was bought, but so far it does not help much;) So, for authority lies.

Another indirect measure of the popularity of books is an indicator of their "sprawl". This is the number of missing books when you had to buy them again. We have an open office, sometimes an employee of the delivery department took it to read and forgot, or a client read it while waiting for repairs and took it with him;) For example, Carl Sewell's "Clients for Life" spread 7 times, Mark Eco's "I am a brand" spread 4 times.

We buy the book "7 notes of management" every reprint. The last, seventh, was torn into blocks, fastened with stationery clips, and distributed to employees. The Finance block turned out to be especially popular. And in general, books about regular management calm down, give a ghostly hope that this happens;)

The Macintosh Way Guy Kawasaki bought on Amazon beushny. Talisman, a mandatory program for an authorized dealer;)

Since we try to pay attention to the little things, there are a lot of them, little things, going to be very, very much. Which means there is nowhere without GTD. Therefore, on the shelf Ready For Anything and Making It All Work by David Allen.

A couple of memorable copies. The book Steve Jobs autographed by Walter Isaacson was presented by the director of the Ukrainian office of Yandex, Sergey Petrenko, just a couple of weeks after the book was published. The classic "Ogilvy about advertising" is a gift from the Ukrainian office of SPN Ogilvy.

There are a lot of books on Mac OS, a mandatory set of Harvard Business Review — magazines and books, a paper MacWorld, although it is already more correct to buy it electronically through Zinio. At one time, we bought almost all the books of the Stockholm School of Economics. Anyone familiar with this series can easily find it by the spines. A scattering of books on Go, of different levels of complexity. For those who will get there, "The Art of being yourself" by Vladimir Levi and "Communicate with a child. How?" by Yu. B. Gippenreiter. But they rarely get to these books. ;)
