Recently Lifehacker.ru and the publishing house "Mann, Ivanov and Ferber" began to explore the bookshelves of well-known companies, and this turned out to be a whole column. But there are so many interesting libraries! And we came up with a contest: send us a report about your company's bookshelves, and we will publish the most interesting ones in our section. And the authors of the best reportage will receive 20 books as a gift from the publisher.
Today we are publishing a report by one of the contestants — the Mildberry branding agency. The company was founded in Russia and today works with international clients in offices in Moscow, London, Milan and Dubai. This is what the company's library looks like in the Moscow office:
A year ago, at the council of the company's employees, it was decided to turn the library into a special place with its own atmosphere, different from the hustle and bustle of the office. The library was supposed to be a space for inspiration, communication and meditative relaxation, where everyone can find new ideas and incentives for creativity.
The library was placed so that it was convenient to get into it from any corner of the office: a working studio, managers' offices, a kitchen and a large balcony overlooking the Yacht Club.
Especially for her, the founder and managing partner of Mildberry, Oleg Beriev, chose furniture and interior items in the colonial style: tall bookcases made of rough dark wood, antique chest of drawers and a sofa decorated with oriental pillows.
Previously, this oriental interior was complemented by an exotic trophy — a zebra skin, but time was merciless to her, and a comfortable mat replaced the skin. The animalistic accent has been preserved in the form of a small carved horse on the shelf and a giraffe magazine.
Every detail of the interior here emphasizes the atmosphere of the "sanctuary of knowledge", it seems that only the aroma of oriental incense is missing. In the future, it is planned to hang thick curtains of deep color and decorate the wall opposite the bookshelves with paintings.
And what is the main wealth of the library — books?
There are about a thousand unique publications about design, visual culture, and marketing philosophy.
The new fund received books from the old library and new ones specially ordered from Amazon and other bookstores.
The main topic is business...
...design...
...and visual communications.
But there are books of a completely different orientation that help to find unexpected sources of inspiration, expand creative horizons. The guide to India is adjacent to a textbook on the history of costume, a manual on art parquet and, of course, cocktail recipes.
Every few months, employees make a list of desired books.
Two of our most enthusiastic employees, designers Maria Maidurova and Vasily Kassab, monitor the regular filling of the library. In the photo, Vasily is arranging books, sitting on the shoulders of his colleague Viktor Karpikov.
There is no special accounting system for books. I took the right book, was inspired and returned it to its place after a while. Everything is based on trust and respect.
We believe that an office library is not just another boring corner made for show, but a place for communication, inspiration and joyful moments!
Thank you Mildberry for the fascinating story and inspiring photos! If you liked it, mark the post with "likes" and comments – it is by these parameters that we will choose the best report. And don't forget that our contest continues!
