Today, Denis Yablonsky, the founder of the DJ school of Music Academy, tells how he decided to read one book a week, and how it helped to achieve success in his business. After all, business in the entertainment industry is still a business.
My collection of books begins its history in 2009. I used to read haphazardly, and therefore a little. Then I was influenced by Denis Matakov's blog, where he posted photos and descriptions of useful books. I decided to follow Denis's example and read 52 books a year, one book a week. Now almost every week I post to my blog a photo of the book I have read, its number in my "plan 52" and a brief summary.
There, in Denis Matakov's blog, I found out about the Business Book store, and then I went to the Boffo store. I bought more than 100,000 rubles worth of books from them this year alone.
It is difficult for me to single out any favorite books from the list, since all of them have already passed a very strict selection. I am specially attaching a high-resolution photo so that you can see the title of each book.
In the photo, "Advice for a million", "Simplify your life", "Psychology of influence", "Millionaires from the Appstore", "Drucker for every day", "Work less, do more", "New magicians of the market".
I want to tell you how such a violent passion for books affected my life in general. Over the past two years, I have achieved results that exceed the results of the last five years, and maybe even 10 years of my life. And these are successes both in business and in terms of personal development, although my relatives can objectively judge the latter ...
The application of the useful principles outlined in the books has benefited my business – DJ school MusicAcademy.ru , companies for the creation and management of entertainment establishments "Own Atmosphere", consulting in the field of marketing in social networks. And I'm also a DJ, I write my own music and perform, and even in this narrow specialty, expanding my horizons through books has only done me good.
But the most important thing is that I have become much more open-minded and, importantly, I have become more useful to others. I give almost all my friends, family and team books that I think are useful to them at the moment, so I often order several copies of books at once, in the benefits of which I am one hundred percent sure.
An important lesson I learned is reading is a simulator for our brain.

1. I read in the morning
I started waking up early on purpose. It takes half an hour to clean up, drink water and brew delicious tea. Then, first of all, without being distracted by anything, I start reading. I spend 1-2 hours reading in the morning and so far, it turns out to be the most useful time in terms of productivity. During the day, when current affairs grab attention, reading is no longer so productive. Before going to bed, I like to read more biographies, books about personal development, inspirational books and fiction.
2. I note useful things
Next to me is a notepad and a text marker. It cost me a lot of moral effort to start highlighting useful parts in the book (I treat books carefully, blow away dust particles, buy covers, which are often more expensive than the book itself), but you can't even imagine how useful it turned out to be. After a while, you can always go back to the book and run through the useful points that you noted before — at the same time, the book is almost immediately restored to memory. The next step will probably be to use the fields for notes at the end of the book for their intended purpose, but for now this is vandalism for me and I just put a folded A4 sheet on which I leave notes on the book.
3. I keep my books in order
Since I spend most of my working time at home, books are in almost every part of it. Now, thanks to the fact that I have raked a large closet, the books have found their place and the next step will be to sort them into categories.
Part of the operational library is located in the studio, where both the team and the students have free access to it. But so far they, «radishes », are not actively engaged in reading. But they promise to improve! And I help them in this. In 2013, I plan to open a reading club for the team and students, with assignments and regular meetings where we will discuss the books we have read and draw conclusions.
In the photo, "Pixar Magic", "Don't pounce on marmalade", "Storytelling", "Pumpkin Method", "Psychology of Optimal Experience", "Phenomenal Memory", "Steve Jobs".
My parting words to everyone will be the following words: "start reading, follow the system and read constantly, teach your children and loved ones to read, but not by coercion, but by personal example. Form a personal library and positive results and shifts in work and personal life will not keep you waiting." And I sincerely hope that my example is contagious and I rejoice at the thought that my hobby will change someone's life for the better, or at least expand the horizon and give a new, useful hobby.
